SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF DISSOCIATION QUOTIENTS OF TRIAZENE – N1 – OXIDES AND THE EFFECT OF SUBSTITUENTS ON pKa VALUES

ASHOK KUMAR , GALAL M ZAIAD

Abstract: Determination of dissociation quotients of thirty two substituted triazene-N1-oxides has been done spectrophotometrically. The effect of different substituents present at both the ends of triazene-N1-oxide moiety upon their pKa values has been studied and discussed. A comparision of pKa values of N3- (aryl/ substituted aryl ) – N1- alkyl-triazene-N1-oxides with N3-(aryl/substituted aryl)-N1-(aryl/substituted aryl)- triazene-N1-oxides reveals that the presence of one more aromatic ring at N1-end in the latter type of compounds decreases the pKa values due to the – I effect of the aryl ring.
